Indiana > Mother's Day Half Marathon & 5K
Porter, IN • Sunday, May 11, 2014 • Course Map
Runners will make their way along the edge of one of northern Indiana's ecological treasures at the Mother's Day Half Marathon near Porter, as they'll run past Indiana Dunes State Park and the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, where natural sand dunes tower more than 200 feet high over the shoreline of Lake Michigan.
Just over 200 runners crossed the finish line at the race last year, which was the Mother's Day 5K. This year the race will unfold along the newly completed Brickyard and Calumet trails, which are part of a system of trails linking Porter with the Prairie Duneland and Dunes Kankakee trails, which connect the park with the nearby towns.
The race starts at the Spring House Inn on North Mineral Springs Road and finishes at Porter Beach, next to Indiana Dunes State Park. On a point-to-point course, the race takes runners through the town of Porter's charming downtown and then finishes on the shores of Lake Michigan at Porter Beach. The course will feature rolling hills throughout and views of the dunes near the end.
