Details
Set for its first-ever running along the rolling, hilly countryside of
northern Vanderburgh County here in southwestern Indiana in the spring
of 2010, Evansville's Southern Indiana Classic Marathon & Half
Marathon will also be the city's first qualifying event for the 2011
running of the Boston Marathon. The out-and-back loop course for both
the full and the half marathons will take place just miles from the
city's downtown, which lies along a U-shaped bend in the Ohio River,
giving the city its nickname "River City."
From the race's start and finish lines at the Vanderburgh County 4-H
grounds near Darmstadt, the race follows a clockwise loop through the
hills and farmlands just to the west of the fairgrounds. The race's
hilliest stretches are in the early going, particular between the
starting line and the mile 2 marker, and the last couple miles of the
race are (thankfully for the runners!) mostly downhill back into the
finish line.
