Details
Runners get the chance to run through the "crossroads of America" at
the Valpo Mini Marathon, which is quickly becoming an annual spring
tradition in Valparaiso, as 2008 will be the fourth annual running of
the race. Both participant- and spectator-friendly, this half marathon
takes runners on a fast, flat course with only a few small hills on an
out-and-back loop course through the streets of the city, the campus of
Valparaiso University and past a number of tree-lined city parks.
Thanks to its springtime race date, the Valpo Mini is considered a
great training/warm-up run for the Chicago Marathon later in the year,
and draws many of its entrants from the greater Chicagoland area (it's
just an hour's drive from Chicago, in fact). The race also features a
new course layout for 2008 (shown below), and runners are expected to
maintain at least a 15-minute-per-mile pace in order to complete the
13.1 miles in time to re-open the streets.
More than 500 runners crossed the finish line for last year's race, and
the number of entrants will be limited to 1,000 for this year's race,
so be sure to sign up in time.
