Details
More than 800 runners crossed the finish line at the 2007 Sturgis Falls
Half Marathon & 5K, the 29th annual running of the race named
for the city's founders and its original town name (Sturgis Falls, now
called Cedar Falls in part because of its location near the Cedar
River). This year will mark the race's 30th anniversary, one of several
local races organized by the Cedar River Runners Club that sponsors the
race.
From the starting line at the Cedar Falls Recreation Center at the
corner of 13th and Main Streets, the race takes participants on a tour
of the nearby Cedar River Trail that follows the river of the same
name. The out-and-back course follows a winding path along the river
and crosses it twice, taking runners along the way around the lakes
across the river from Cedar Falls, including George Wyth Lake, Alice
Wyth Lake and Fisher Lake.
Thanks to its proximity to the river and the lakes, the course for the
race is mostly fast and flat, and includes a combination of trails and
paved roads. The 5K and half-marathon races start at 7:00 AM at the
recreation center, and the event also includes a kids' fun run that
begins at 9:15 AM.
