Kansas > See Jane Run Half Marathon & 5K
Wichita, KS • Sunday, September 14, 2014 • Course Map
Set for its 4th annual running as summer is transitioning to fall in mid-September -- more than 800 runners crossed the finish line in 2013 -- Wichita's See Jane Run Half Marathon is part of a four-event series devoted to women runners, to encourage moms, daughters, sisters, aunts, nieces and grandmothers to lace up and run the streets of Kansas's largest city.
While the race is promoted and encouraged among women, it's not closed to men -- several dozen men cross the finish line in the half marathon and 5K combined each year.
Runners will start the out-and-back course for the race in Wichita's A. Price Woodard Park, which overlooks the river near the city's downtown district. From there, they'll head onto the riverwalk trails that hug its banks, and just before passing the first mile marker runners will cross the first of nine bridges during the race, which will keep them close to the water for most of the course, taking them through Oak and Riverside Parks as well as past local landmarks like the Arthur Sim Golf Course and the Exploration Place science museum.
The race is organized by the California-based athletic store chain of the same name as a benefit for the Breast Cancer Fund. As the store says in its tagline for the event, "I run for chocolate and champagne!" -- and it gives girls, women, sisters, daughters and mothers an opportunity to train for and run in their first half-marathon while also raising money to fight breast cancer, as proceeds from the race go to benefit the Breast Cancer Fund.
The scheduled starting time for the race is 8:00 AM. While the half marathon is open to runners only, the 5K is open to both runners and walkers. The course for the race will close 4 hours after the start of the half marathon, at 12 noon local time.
