Located just to the north of Bangor, Maine on a course that race
organizers say is the "easternmost half-marathon in the United States,"
the County Open Half
Marathon & Relay takes runners on a course filled with rolling
hills past the Houlton Community Golf Course, nearby Drews Lake and
along the surrounding back roads. The race finishes at the former Lake
Road Market and presents little to no car traffic, thanks to its rural,
quiet race environment.

With temperatures that average between 52°F and 76°F in
August, the Houlton area tends to be mild to moderately warm in the
late summer. Come
prepared for wet weather, as area precipitation averages nearly 3 3/4
inches during the month.
