Massachusetts > Oleksak Lumber Spring Half Marathon &
5K
Run/Walk
Westfield,
MA
Date
Sunday, April 6, 2008
Event
Details
Run to benefit the local Boys and Girls Club organization in this town
of about 40,000 residents
in the southern central part of the state, the Oleksak Lumber Spring
Half Marathon & 5K takes runners on a tour of the rural areas
just outside of town, along a course marked by plenty of green, rolling
hills, especially in the race's first few miles.
Race organizers tout the course as a "great tune-up" for the Boston
Marathon later the same month (it's held each April), and that most of
the hills along the course occur in the first 4 miles. The Oleksak
Lumber races typically are a smaller, more intimate gathering of
runners, as just over 250 participated in last year's half marathon and
about 86 runners in the 5K portion of the event.
Registration is available on the day of the race from 9:30 AM to 10:30
AM at the Boys & Girls Club, and the race starts at the same
place at 11:00 AM.

Weather & Climate
Temperatures can still be quite cold in the Westfield area on the first
day of April, as average temperatures during the month range between
38°F and 61°F. Rainfall (or even snow) is definitely a
possibility, as the city sees an average of 3.9 inches of precipitation
during the month. The 2007 running of the event, however, saw mostly
calm and sunny weather, with temperatures in the low 50s.
Fees
$30 if registered by March 26, 2007
$35 from March 26 through the day of the race
