Plymouth, MA

Event Details

Nearly 400 runners crossed the finish line at the 14th annual running in 2008 of the Run To The Rock Half Marathon, which takes runners from the nearby town of Cedarville on a course northward toward the home of the famous landmark Plymouth Rock, where the pilgrims of the Mayflower landed in the early 1600s. Now something of a local tradition in this town located about 40 miles south of Boston in the area known as the South Shore near Cape Cod, the race raises money for and awareness of Plymouth's Boys & Girls Club After School fitness programs.

The course for the half marathon begins at the British Beer Company in nearby Cedarville (while the 5K and 10K start at Cordage Park and the Fitness Center on Meadow Road, respectively), and follows a course made up entirely of paved roads, which winds slightly northwest toward Plymouth throughout, running parallel along State Route 3. Described by past participants as a course with "big, rolling hills," the race presents perhaps its toughest challenge around mile 11, with a big uphill stretch near Jordan Hospital along Sandwich Street as runners near downtown Plymouth.

The finish line offers the reward for runners who've braved what are often very warm conditions this time of year, as the race finishes at the Plymouth Harbor Marina, where runners may get relief from the water if they wish. Day-of-race registration is available starting at 7:30 AM, and the race begins at 9:00 AM.

Race Weather & Climate

Though race temperatures in the Plymouth area during the month of September appear quite mild to the casual observer (temperatures during the month average between 54°F and 73°F), conditions can get quite warm on race day. September is also one of the city's wetter months of the year, with more than 4.6 inches of rainfall on average during the month.

Fees

$35 for the half marathon
$25 for both the 10K and 5K
