Event Details

Experience a run through the hills and great pines of northern Michigan as the changing seasons turn the leaves into all shades of red, orange and gold at the Boyne 2 Boyne Marathon, which also includes a half marathon, 10K, 5K and a kids' fun run race. With a very hilly and challenging course that starts at the half-way point of the full marathon and continues all the way to the village at the base of the Boyne Mountain ski resort, the race offers the chance to enjoy the crisp, clear mountain air as well as the rest of the amenities at Boyne Highlands for the weekend.

From the starting line at the Walloon Lake Country Club (at the 13.1-mile marker of the full marathon), the half takes runners on a point-to-point course that winds southward all the way toward the Boyne Falls/Boyne Highlands resort area. Immediately after the start, runners experience what locals call the "Seven Hills," a series of uphill and downhill stretches between miles 2 and 11 that overlook the waters of crystal blue Walloon Lake. Following this (long) stretch of hills, the remaining two miles of the race are mostly flat all the way to the finish.

The course, which described by race organizers as "not your same old ho hum course," is also certified by USA Track and Field, and finishes on Boyne Mountain Road at the base of the resort village area. Both the full and half marathon races start at 8:00 AM (there will be transportation provided for half-marathon participants to their starting line), while the 5K and 10K begin at 9:00 AM.

Race Weather & Climate

Nestled in the mountainous northern part of the state, just over 20 miles from Lake Michigan and Grand Traverse Bay, the town of Boyne Falls typically sees mild to cool temperatures in the early fall, as well as its wettest weather of the year on average during this time of year. In September, average monthly temperatures range between 71°F and 47°F, while precipitation amounts average around 3.9 inches for the month.
