Details
Arrive prepared with the right clothes and gear if you're planning on
running in this small Michigan town's annual Flushing Township Half
Marathon & 5K, as the 2007 running of the race saw a
combination of unseasonably cold temperatures (in the mid 20s
Fahrenheit), some snow and windy conditions along the course, which
slowed down the times of the roughly 280 runners who finished the two
races combined last year.
In fact, the winner of the race -- a runner from nearby Ann Arbor who
won the race with a time of 1 hour, 18 minutes & 41 seconds --
finished with the slowest winning time in the event's fifteen years of
history as a race. Assuming more amendable weather conditions, however,
the race usually offers a pleasant run through the rolling hills and
flat farmland surrounding the town, following a course that takes
runners along three loops of about three miles for the first loop, and
five miles each for the second two loops.
The course is run mostly along rural roads and highways around
Flushing, so runners should be aware that the course remains open to
traffic during the race -- a factor that some runners find less than
desirable, to be sure. The event begins at 9:30 AM for both races, and
both runners and walkers are welcome to participate in the 5K (the
half-marathon is open to runners only).

Weather & Climate
Located about 60 miles northwest of Detroit and set along the banks of
lower Michigan's stretch of the meandering Flint River, the township of
Flushing typically sees early spring weather that's hardly springlike
at all, and is usually still quite cold this time of year. In March,
average monthly temperatures range between 43°F and
24°F, while precipitation amounts average around 2.22 inches
for the month.
