Michigan > Let's Move Festival of Races Half Marathon & 5K
Mt. Clemens, MI  •  Saturday, April 26, 2014  •  Course Map

Inspired by the National "Lets Move" Campaign, Macomb County, Michigan has been holding a series of races to held combat childhood obesity in America. This festival of races includes a 5K run, 5K walk, a children's one-mile fun run, a river walk and a half marathon event. All proceeds from all races will benefit the Macomb Health and Fitness Foundation, Inc., a local nonprofit organization.

Held in the downtown area of Mt. Clemens, Michigan, the half marathon portion of this festival of races features a flat and easy to manage route on entirely paved and open roads. Opening ceremonies for the races begin at 8:00 AM, and runners in the half marathon have two designated start times, beginning at 8:45 AM the day of the race.

Those participating in the half marathon with a goal of 1:59 or less, and relay teams will begin the run at 8:45 AM. Participants aiming for a half marathon time of 2 to 4 hours will begin at 9:00 AM.

The marathon begins at the Mt. Clemens Fire Station and takes a straight route through the city of Mt. Clemens for the first 3 miles. This is a flat and open area, ideal for allowing runners to space out and set their own pace.

After this straight, three mile stretch, race participants then begin winding through the smaller streets of Mt. Clemens. After runners make it to the city's Metropolitan Parkway around the 5 mile mark, they will make a loop around the popular Metro Beach Metropark area. This loop is also the relay exchange point for those participating in a relay.

The route then continues to Jefferson Avenue, were runners will run along Lake St. Clair and enjoy views of the L'anse Creuse Bay. Finally, its back up through the streets of Mt. Clemens and back towards the center of the city. Runners take a flat route to the city's clock tower to finish the course, near the rest of the festival events. Although there are some turns and a few slight hills, runners of all experience levels will enjoy the consistently flat terrain of the course.
