Michigan > LiveCentred Half Marathon, 5K & Kids' 1-Mile Challenge
Adrian, MI  •  Saturday, September 15, 2012  •  Course Map

Set for its second annual running as summer is giving way to fall here in southern Michigan, just a short drive from both Ann Arbor to the north and Toledo, Ohio, to the south, the LiveCentered Half Marathon, 5K and Kids' Challenge takes runners on an out-and-back tour of the rolling country roads around Adrian, a small city of about 20,000 residents near the Michigan-Ohio state line.

The race is sponsored and organized by The Centre, a Christian recreation, athletic, fitness and wellness facility just outside Adrian that's affiliated with the Lewanee Christian School. Runners should find this race an excellent course either to set a personal record time on -- thanks to its few hills and gently rolling terrain throughout -- or as the course for a first half marathon, as more than 20 percent of the race's participants in 2011 did.

Runners start and finish the out-and-back course for the race at The Center, which is located near the intersection of West Maumee Street and Wolf Creek Highway. From there, runners head out onto Hamilton Highway, Forrister Road and then the Wolf Creek Highway, following a clockwise route that takes them out into the countryside north of town and then brings them back along Shepherd Road and Lenawee Hills Highway, back to the Centre for the race finish.

Organizers note that the course is made up mostly of paved roads but also includes 3 miles of dirt roads, and along the route there will be "five supportive water stops, live music, and plenty of encouragement." Typically, the weather is cool at the race start and temperatures warm to the mid-50s by the time runners are finishing the race, they add.

Race Weather & Climate

Located in southern Michigan near the state's border with Ohio, about 30 miles southwest of Ann Arbor and roughly 70 miles southwest of Detroit, Adrian typically sees September temperatures that average between 73°F and 50°F, while rainfall totals average just over 3.6 inches for the month. On the day of the race (Sept. 15), the average high is 73°F and the average low is 50°F.
