Michigan > Run Woodstock Trail Races - Hippie Half Marathon
Pinckney, MI  •  Saturday, September 7, 2013  •  Course Map

With an event schedule that features no fewer than nine trail running events over the course of three days in late September, Pinckney's annual Run Woodstock trail races will take runners along miles of single-track Potawatomi trails through the peaceful wilderness of southern Michigan's Pinckney State Recreation Area, a roughly 11,000-acre state park that lies just a short drive northwest from nearby Ann Arbor.

The races scheduled for the event's 2013 running -- after its 4th annual running in 2012 saw nearly 450 runners cross the finish line in the event's appropriately named "Hippie Half Marathon" -- include a 5K run and a 100-mile trail race on Friday; the Mellow Full Marathon and Hippie Half Marathon on Saturday, as well as a 50-mile, 50K, and a 5-mile "fun run" on Sunday to finish off the weekend's trail running events.

Like all of the other races, the half marathon follows an out-and-back loop trail that starts and finishes at Silver Lake Beach, which lies just off Silver Hill Road and overlooks the lake by the same name along the park's eastern edge. From there, those running the half make a single loop around the race route (those running the full run the loop course twice), and make their way along a course filled with uphill and downhill stretches, lakes and streams throughout, and a combination of trails through tree-covered forests as well as stretches out in the open air and sunlight.

The theme for the weekend's events is "peace, love and running," and the event organizers hand out tie-dyed race t-shirts and peace logo paraphernalia to finishers, who complete the race back where they started at Silver Lake Beach, where they can take a dip in the (most likely quite cool) waters of the lake to refresh themselves after the run.

Race Weather & Climate

Located along the northeastern corner of the Pinckney State Recreation Area in southern Michigan, about 15 miles from Ann Arbor, Pinckney tends to see mild to moderately warm conditions in the early fall, and slightly wetter weather in the late summer and early fall than in the rest of the year.

In September, average monthly temperatures range between 53°F and 74°F, while rainfall totals average just under 3.4 inches for the month. On the day of the race (Sept. 7), the average low is 56°F and the average high is 76°F.
