Details
This southern Minnesota town celebrates the seventh annual running in
2008 of the Cannon Lake Run series of races, which include a half
marathon (which was run for the first time in this event two years ago)
as well as three other road races, including an 8.5-Mile race, a 5-Mile
race and a 2.5-mile run. Organized to raise money and awareness of the
need to keep the nearby Cannon River clean and pristine, the race takes
runners along the shoreline of Cannon Lake for much of the event.
Mostly fast and flat, the half marathon portion of the race follows a
point-to-point course that starts at Faribault's Municipal Airport just
off Interstate 35, and then follows a southerly direction toward Cannon
Lake. Once the course reaches the lake, runners will run once around
the banks of the lake, taking in the crystal blue waters and tree-lined
pathways around the lake, and finish at Shager Park on the lake's
eastern side just off Highway 60.
The race takes place the same weekend as the Faribault Area Airfest, a
two-day series of events that draws hot air balloon enthusiasts from
all over the country for balloon exhibitions, a stunt kite performance
and a series of displays of other aircraft such as ultralight planes.
