Minnesota > Maple Grove Half Marathon, Relay & 5K
Maple Grove, MN • Saturday, May 11, 2013 • Course Map
Named for the maple trees that once were found throughout the formerly rural areas that now make up one of Minnesota's fastest growing cities, Maple Grove will host its 6th annual half-marathon and 5K road race event in the late spring of 2013, along a course that features more than six miles of trails through the area's scenic parks, bridges and lakes.
Run as a benefit for the local Maple Grove Lions Club, the race takes runners on a clockwise loop through the city starting at the athletic stadium at Maple Grove Senior High School. From there, the course winds through residential neighborhoods and city streets, passing by local landmarks including Lakeview Knolls Park and Kerber Park, and takes runners along the shores of Rice Lake and Rice Pond.
Both the half marathon and 5K races share the same starting and finish line, back at the Maple Grove High School stadium. In addition to the individual half marathon, organizers also host a two-person half marathon relay. More than over 940 runners crossed the finish line in 2012 in both races combined, including more than 600 finishers in the half marathon alone.
