Event Details

Following a course with both moderately hilly stretches as well as plenty of flat spells, the New Prague Half Marathon & 5K takes runners on a circular loop course just south of town, featuring a starting and finish line at Memorial Park near the New Prague Golf Club. Run entirely along paved roads, this popular half marathon drew just over 900 finishers in 2007 and expects even more for its 23rd annual running in 2009.

Thanks in part to its long, straight stretches outside the city proper that are unencumbered by taller buildings, runners should be prepared for sometimes windy conditions on the course. Most runners elect to wear the standard runner's gear -- running shorts and shirt -- but pay attention to local weather conditions as the race approaches.

Headphones are not forbidden during the race, but organizers ask that you pay close attention to your surroundings if you choose to bring an iPod or other mp3 player with you during the race.

Race Weather & Climate

Located about 40 miles southwest of Minneapolis, the town of New Prague (like much of the rest of Minnesota) tends to experience mild to moderately warm summers and very cold winters. Average temperatures in May range between 68°F and 45°F, while rainfall amounts average 3.4 inches for the month.

Fees
