Details
One of three half marathon running events that will take place in this
city just to the south of the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, the Rochester
Half Marathon & 5K takes runners from the downtown area Holiday
Inn on an out-and-back course along the Bear Creek Trail, a trail for
bikers, walkers and hikers that traverses through parks and developed
areas along the creek of the same name.
The race takes runners over a combination of paved city streets,
running through neighborhoods and downtown districts, and country roads
on the outskirts of the city as well as the trails through the
parklands of the Bear Creek Trail and South Fork Zumbro Trail sections,
which follow Rochester's stretch of the Zumbro River.
This year (the 2008 running of the race) will mark the event's 24th
anniversary as one of the Rochester Track Club's signature events. The
event drew nearly 600 participants for its 2007 running, and organizers
expect even more for this year's race, which also goes by the name of
the Holiday Inn Half Marathon (as it starts near the Holiday Inn
downtown, on 3rd Street and South Broadway).

Weather & Climate
Weather conditions in the late weeks of summer tend to be moderately
warm to mild and pleasant in the Rochester area, as August temperatures
average between 78°F and 58°F. The city also sees an
average of about 4.33 inches of rainfall during August, making it the
city's second-wettest month of the year on average.
