Details
Called "the runner's race" by the Starkville running club which started
the race back in 1984, the Frostbite Half Marathon will mark 24 years
at its January 2009 running of offering runners and joggers in this
central Mississippi community a
wintertime road race event. Run along the 13.1 miles of rolling hills
between the small towns of Pheba and Starkville, the home of
Mississippi State University, the race finishes at Oktibbeha County
Hospital, where a whirlpool and showers are available for runners at
the finish line, as well as an open buffet later in the afternoon with
free food and beverages for all event participants. Nearly 200 runners
crossed the finish line at the 2008 running of the race, which runners
must complete within two hours, 45 minutes.

Weather & Climate
Located in center of the eastern half of the state, about 30 miles west
of the state border with Alabama, the town of Starkville typically sees
moderately cool to cold weather conditions in the mid-winter season,
with relatively heavy precipitation compared to the summer and fall
months. In January, average monthly temperatures range between
52°F and 31°F, while precipitation amounts average
about 5.7 inches for the month.
