Event Details

Just over a couple hundred runners turned out for the summer 2009 running of Maryville's Chamber County Classic Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K & 5K, four races which take runners through the in-town and rural areas outside this rural town in the northeast corner of Missouri, on a hilly and challenging course characterized by some steep inclines and declines.

From the starting line at Donaldson Westside Park, a baseball park on the western side of town just off Country Club Road, the out-and-back course takes runners on a clockwise loop through Maryville's downtown and out along the outskirts of town, with much of the race course taking runners on a long, straightaway run along Highway 71. Runners should expect to encounter lots of rolling hills along this portion of the route, which heads back into town at the intersection of 71 and South Main Street.

While the race of course doesn't have the spectators or perhaps the outsized scenery or attractions of larger-city races, many past participants say it makes up for that with a friendly, intimate feel and plenty of enthusiastic spectators along the route and at the finish line. The starting time for the full and half marathons is at 6:30 AM (the 10K and 5K races start a half-hour later) to give participants a chance to get at least a part of the race in before conditions become overly warm, as they have in some past years.

The out-and-back loop course ends for both the full- and half-marathon participants where it began, back at Donaldson Westside Park -- for half-marathoners, the course is a single loop, while the 26.2-mile entrants will run the loop course twice.

Race Weather & Climate

A rural town in Missouri's northeastern corner about 100 miles north of Kansas City, the town of Maryville enjoys early summertime weather conditions that are usually relatively mild to warm, but can get hot with sometimes heavy rain. In June, average monthly temperatures range from 84°F to 59°F, while rainfall amounts average about 4.16 inches for the month.
