Details
Travel at least a small part of the historic journey to explore the
west begun in 1804 and headed by Meriwether Lewis and William Clark at
the commemorative Lewis & Clark Marathon & Half
Marathon, which takes runners on a tour of this city's stretch of the
Missouri River Valley, crossing the river (like the explorers once did)
and running across the abandoned railway now known to locals as the
Katy Trail. As a special note to the unique historic nature of the
town, participants will finish their race at the camping site where the
legendary explorers began their adventure.
Runners in the full and half marathons share the same starting time and
location, at 6:45 AM near the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater on the
eastern side of the river in the part of town known as Riverport. From
there, participants make their way around the Riverport and Earth City
parts of town, running along city streets. After the portion of the
course through Earth City, participants then head onto Highway 370 and
across the river into downtown St. Charles, getting their best view yet
of the city's riverfront along the water as they hit the bridge and
make their way over.
After crossing the bridge and entering the western side of the
Missouri, runners then enter the city of St. Charles and run through a
combination of both open greenspaces and wooded areas of the river
floodplain, taking runners past city parks and through the section of
town known as Frenchtown before hitting the finish line at Frontier
Park, located on Riverside Drive overlooking the flowing waters of the
Missouri River.
Those running the half marathon finish here, while the full marathon
participants soldier on for another 13.1 miles along the railroad
section known to locals now as the Katy Trail, for an out-and-back
stretch that brings them back to the park and lets those who've just
finished the half cheer on their compatriots on the way in. At the
close of the race, organizers will host a post-race party at Frontier
Park, with plenty of music and refreshments.
Also, those running the half marathon are limited to four and a half
hours to finish their race,
while those running the full marathon are limited to nine hours.

Weather & Climate
Nestled along the riverbanks of the Missouri River just a few miles
northwest of its much larger neighbor St. Louis, the city of St.
Charles typically sees warm to mild weather conditions in the late
summer-early fall weeks, with relatively drier conditions than the
summer. In September, average monthly temperatures range between
80°F and 55°F, while rainfall amounts average around 3
inches for the month.
