Details
Just over 130 runners and walkers crossed the finish line in both races
combined at the early summer 2009 running of Peculiar's Lucky 13.1 Half
Marathon & 5K Run/Walk, which takes participants on a fast and
mostly flat out-and-back course from the football stadium at Raymore
Peculiar High School up to Lucy Webb Road and back to the school for
the finish.
Sponsored and organized by the high school's RayPec Cross Country team,
the race features some rolling uphill and downhill stretches,
especially along the middle portions of the race along State Highway J,
between the mile 4 and 6 markers as well as between miles 7 and 9
(which runners head back along on the route back toward the finish).
Many of the roads along the race feature tree-lined streets with ample
views of the wide-open countryside in and around Peculiar, as well as
several lakes and ponds.
The race also features a poker-style raffle for all runners in the
race, as participants are given playing card stickers at each water
station along the route, and will be able to put together a poker
"hand" for which they'll receive prizes if they have the best hand of
cards at the end of the race.

Weather & Climate
Located nearly 30 miles south of Kansas City in Missouri's northwestern
corner, the city of Peculiar typically sees mild to moderately warm and
sometimes hot, humid weather conditions in the early summer season, as
June temperatures in the area average between 84°F and
62°F. The city also experiences its wettest weather of the year
on average in May and June, when rainfall amounts average about 5.2
inches for the month.

$35 for the half marathon, if registered by June 15, 2009
$45 after June 15
