Spring 2010 (TBA)

Event Details

Cancelled for its fall 2009 running and rescheduled for the spring of 2010 at a date still to be determined, Montana's Lewis & Clark Marathon, Half Marathon, Relay & 5K takes runners across a combination of paved roads, gravel trails and single-track natural surface trails in some areas, to offer a more technical running challenge than most road races. And as you might expect in this mountainous region -- which lies at nearly 4,800 feet above sea level -- the race course also offers breathtaking views of the nearby mountain ranges, along with plenty of fresh air and wide open spaces.

While runners taking part in the full marathon start their race just off Interstate 90 on Jackson Creek Road, those running in the 13.1-mile half marathon start their race at the mid-way point of the full marathon, on the gravel trail near the intersection of Kelly Canyon Road and Sawmill Road. From there, runners follow Kelly Canyon as it winds its way toward Bozeman, continuing along the trails and roads past the historic Fort Ellis archeological site and heads into the eastern edge of Bozeman following Bozeman Trail and Kagy Boulevard.

The course then takes runners along the residential streets on the south side of town and passes Sacagawea Middle School before moving onto another trail section. The route reaches its finishing stretch as it takes runners north along 7th Avenue, leading into the finish line at the Montana State University Track Complex. Just over 370 runners crossed the finish line in all of event's races combined in 2008, with more than 200 of those runners finishing the half-marathon race alone.

Race Weather & Climate

Located in the central southern part of the state, about a two-hour drive west from Billings along Interstate 90 and about 90 miles north of Wyoming's Yellowstone National Park, the town of Bozeman typically experiences cool (and often cold) to mild weather conditions in the spring season, as well as its heaviest precipitation of the year, on average. In March, April and May, the city's average monthly temperatures range between 46°F - 24°F, 56°F - 31°F and 64°F - 39°F, respectively.
