Details
Just over 5,900 runners crossed the finish line in both races combined
at the spring 2009 running of Nebraska's Lincoln National Guard
Marathon & Half Marathon, which marked its 32nd annual running
in 2009.
Mostly fast
and flat, the course includes a few small uphills around the 3-, 5- and
9-mile markers, and both the half and full marathon courses are run
entirely on the paved city streets of downtown Lincoln.
Both races
start at the campus of University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and follow a
course that takes runners past the Nebraska State Capitol building,
Union College and the Lincoln City-County Building, including travel
along Sheridan Boulevard and the Highway 2 Bicycle Path.
After the city-county building point, half-marathoners then turn back
toward the finish line at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus,
while participants in the full marathon continue on past sight such as
the Folsom Children's Zoo and Antelope Park. The half-marathon portion
of the event has been selected by the state's chapter of the United
States Track and Field Association as their Nebraska half-marathon
championship event, with over $2,000 in prize money to be awarded to
the top men and women runners in the event.
