Details
More than 430 runners crossed the finish line in all of the races
combined at the May 2009 running
of Nebraska's second annual Papillion Half Marathon, 10K &
"Kickin' It At The Creek" Community Fun Walk, with an estimated 290
runners finishing the half marathon alone, for a jump of more than 100
finishers from the race's inaugural running in 2008.
Filled with challenging hills that take runners along a combination of
city streets, hard-surface running and biking trails, and the
occasional stretch of gravel road, the course for the race starts and
finishes at the football stadium at Papillion-La Vista South High
School. At the race starting line, runners will begin the race at an
elevation of about 1,100 feet above sea level; the course dips to a low
of just under 1,000 feet at its lowest point (around the race's
half-way point) and then begins a long, steep rise -- punctuated by an
up-and-down stretch around the mile 7 marker -- on the way back toward
the finish.
And it's the finish line for the race that offers a real treat, as
every runner that completes the 13.1 miles will cross the finish line
inside the football stadium, on the track that surrounds the field.
Those running the half marathon start their race first, at 7:30 AM,
followed by those running the 10K and the fun walk just a short time
later.
