Sponsored and organized by the Reno chapter of the American Lung Association, the Fight For Air Run/Walk serves as both a fundraiser and as a vehicle to raise awareness of all the ways that air pollution (both indoor and outdoor) and lung disease interfere with a healthy lifestyle, with a half marathon, 10K and 5K for runners and walkers.
All three races follow out-and-back courses that start and finish on the campus of Damonte Ranch High School in South Reno, about 10 miles southwest of Reno's downtown. From there, runners in the half marathon follow a clockwise loop route through the neighborhoods to the south and west of the high school, along a route that features a hilly stretch in the first mile and flattens out for most of the rest of the race.
While both the half marathon and the 10K are for runners only, the 5K is open to both walkers and runners, and the race registration fee is waived for 5K entrants who pledge to raise at least $100 for the American Lung Association, which uses the donations raised both to fight for healthy air and cleaner air environments as well as to fight for cures for lung disease, including asthma, lung cancer, emphesema and COPD.
The starting time for the half marathon is scheduled for 8:15 AM, followed by the 10K start at 8:25 AM and the 5K start at 8:35 AM. There will also be a one-mile fun run for kids, which will be run starting at 10:30 AM.
