Details
Get ready for a fast, flat run through the streets of "Glitter Gulch"
when you lace up for the Las Vegas Marathon & Half-Marathon,
which will host just the fourth running of the event in December, and
its first-ever running under the "Rock & Roll" series of races.
The
race takes participants through the Vegas Strip and Fremont Street
areas, past many of the city's world-famous casinos and nightspots,
including the Aladdin, the MGM Grand, New York New York, the Venetian,
Paris, and classics like the Golden Nugget and the Fremont Hotel and
Casino.
The half takes a loop course that looks somewhat like an out-and-back
route, starting at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, and continuing
northward along Las Vegas Boulevard toward the Strip. At the Fremont
Hotel (also the 6-mile mark), the course turns west and then south,
taking runners down Industrial and Frank Sinatra Drive back toward the
finish line.
The race starts early -- in the darkness at 6:15 AM -- and is
celebrated with fireworks as the runners get their start. Be sure to
get your registration in on time -- the half marathon will be capped at
10,000 participants.

Weather & Climate
This desert "oasis" of a city is hot and dry for much of the year,
especially in the summer months, when temperatures average over
100°F. Thankfully in December, average temperatures hover
between 37°F and 57°F, and rainfall is virtually
nonexistent -- average precipitation during the month is less than half
an inch.
Fees
$100 for the half marathon, if registered by August 15, 2009
$115 between Aug. 16 - close of online registration
$135 at the weekend race expo
