Nevada > Zappos.com Rock & Roll Las Vegas Marathon & Half Marathon
Las Vegas, NV • Sunday, November 17, 2013 • Course Map
Set for its 4th annual running in 2013 -- and a move up to November from December -- as one of the events in the Rock & Roll Series of marathon and half marathon races across the country, the Zappos.com Rock & Roll Las Vegas Marathon & Half Marathon takes runners on a fast and mostly flat, out-and-back run through the streets of "Glitter Gulch," with most of the course along the famed Las Vegas Strip.
Runners in both the full and the half marathons will share the same starting line, but will head off in different directions from the start -- those running the full marathon will head west along West Hacienda Avenue into the neighborhoods west of the strip, while those running in the half marathon will start off the race by heading north along Las Vegas Boulevard, passing by a number of the city's legendary casinos and nightspots in the early miles of the race.
In the past couple of years, the race starting time was moved to the early evening instead of in the early morning hours -- 4:00 PM for the full marathon, while those running the half started their race at 5:30 PM just as the sun was starting to set. There will be a time limit for runners out on the course -- the full marathon time limit is 4 1/2 hours, while those running the half must finish the race within 4 hours.
Along the race route, runners will get to take in all of the lights, glamour and glitz that Las Vegas has to offer, as they pass by casinos like the Bellagio, the Venetian, Caesars Palace, the Flamingo, the Mirage, Treasure Island and the Wynn Casino, which lies next to the Wynn Golf Club. Runners make the turnaround near the northern end of Las Vegas Boulevard and near some of the classic casinos like the Golden Nugget before heading back onto Las Vegas Boulevard for the return route back to Mandalay Bay and the race finish line.
Runners interested in taking part in the race should enter as soon as they can, as the race typically fills up in most years -- more than 25,000 runners and wheelchair competitors crossed the finish line in both races combined at its 2012 running, with just over 3,200 finishers in the full marathon and more than 22,000 finishers in the half marathon.
Scheduled starting times for the 2013 race will be available as the race date approaches on the event website, shown below.
Race Weather & Climate
Located in the southern corner of Nevada, just over 260 miles northeast of Los Angeles, Las Vegas typically sees November temperatures that average between 66°F and 44°F. Thanks to its location in an arid basin within the Mojave Desert, the area receives very little precipitation, averaging about a third of an inch for the month.
On the day of the race (Nov. 17), the average high is 65°F and the average low is 43°F.
