Nevada > Marathon De Mayo - Half Marathon
Reno, NV
Date
Sunday, May 4, 2008
Event
Details
Timed to coincide with and celebrate the weekend of Cinco de Mayo, the
Marathon de Mayo Half Marathon features a race course that starts and
finishes under the famous Reno Arch in downtown Reno, Nev., and takes
runners on a tour of the city's historic intown neighborhoods as well
as the riverbanks along the Truckee River, whose riverwalk area is
helping spur the rejuvenation of the downtown and helping attract
tourists to the restaurants, bars, taverns and parks along the water.
All along the out-and-back race course, which follows a north-south
route through the city from the arch down Virginia Street and Arlington
Avenue, runners will hear live music thanks to the rock and roll bands
stationed at mile markers all throughout the race. Largely fast and
flat with little change in elevation throughout, the course also takes
participants past parks such as Virginia Lake Reservoir & Park,
Bartley Regional Park and Audrey Harris Park.
The race ends back where it started at the Reno Arch, where finishers
receive a pewter finishing medal, a t-shirt and an invitation to that
evening's Cinco De Mayo party, where past musical headlining acts have
included Al Stewart.
Walkers are also welcome at all races in this event -- including the
full and half marathons as well as the 10K, 5K and relay.
