Details
The nation's largest man-made lake is your course for the Running From
an Angel series of road races, which include a full marathon, half
marathon, 10K, 5K and a 50-mile race for runners who are up for the
event's most daunting challenge. Run around the western (Nevada) side
of Lake Mead National Recreation Area, the race features a starting and
finish line area that's just minutes from the Hoover Dam, the 726-ft.
high marvel of engineering that created the more than 150-square-mile
lake from which the park takes its name.
This race, whose counterpart Running
With The Devil Marathon & Half
Marathon is run in the blazing
desert heat of the summer, takes
runners from the start at the Boulder Beach Special Events area along
the scenic Lakeshore Road and Boulder Beach Highway, which overlook
Lake Mead's crystal-blue waters. The course is made up entirely of
paved surfaces (for all races) along mostly gentle rolling hills, with
a few long, gradual uphills and downhills thrown in.
Between miles 2 and 4 come the half-marathon's steepest elevation
changes, as the courses rises from a low of about 1,250 feet above sea
level at the mile 2 marker to about 1,539 feet just after the 4-mile
marker. Runners will experience this elevation change in reverse on the
return route, as the course is an out-and-back run to the 6.55-mile
marker, where Highway 166 (the Boulder Beach Highway) begins its
westward turn for the full-marathon and 50-mile run participants.
Due to the race being run on national parklands, the course is open to
automobile traffic throughout the duration of the race. Runners are
asked to remain always on the lakeshore side of the road throughout the
duration of their respective races.

Weather & Climate
Located just a few miles south of the entrance to Nevada's Lake Mead
National Recreation Area, Boulder City weather conditions are much like
those of nearby Las Vegas -- cold and dry in the winter, and hot and
dry in the summer. In January, temperatures average between
53°F and 38°F, while rainfall is very rare -- the area
averages about 0.73 inches of precipitation for the month.
