New Hampshire > Seacoast Half Marathon
Portsmouth, NH

Date

Sunday, November 9, 2008

Event Details

Run, walk, or jog through the saltwater marshes, woodlands, and rugged coastline of New Hampshire’s Portsmouth Harbor at the Seacoast Half Marathon, which raises money to benefit New Heights, an after-school nonprofit that helps local at-risk kids ages 11 to 18 make a successful transition to adulthood through a range of educational and health-related programs. Largely fast and flat, the Seacoast race offers participants a scenic tour of Portsmouth as well as the nearby towns of Rye, New Castle and the harbor.

The loop course takes place entirely along paved city and town roads, and starts and finishes at the Portsmouth High School grounds. Plentiful gentle, rolling hills are found along the course but none would be considered challenging, as the course offers a total elevation change of about 61 feet, dropping to about sea level at several points throughout the race.

Runners (who start at 9:00 AM) and walkers (8:30 AM) are cautioned to remain on the lookout for traffic throughout the race, as the course will remain open to auto traffic (though volunteers will be placed throughout the course to direct traffic away from race participants). Limited to 1,200 entrants, the Seacoast race course closes at 12:00 noon.

Race Weather & Climate

Weather conditions can get cold, rainy and wet in the Portsmouth area in the first half of November, as temperatures during the month average between 32°F and 50°F and precipitation averages nearly 4.9 inches.
