Event Details

Called “America’s First Festival of Running” by race organizers, the Atlantic City Marathon & Half Marathon has certainly stood the test of time, as its 51st annual running will be held in October 2009. As a race that also includes a 10K and 5K run and a 2-mile walk and kids’ fun run, the event offers plenty of diversity for runners and walkers of all abilities.

Unlike many other races that wind through city streets and rural areas with several twists and turns, the 13.1-mile course for the Atlantic City Half is a fairly straightforward one. And out-and-back race with the starting and finish lines on the Boardwalk at Connecticut Avenue, the route follows long, straight stretches of several miles along Boardwalk, taking runners past glitzy casinos like Caesar’s, Bally’s Park Place and the Taj Mahal.

The Boardwalk Runners club, the event’s sponsor, helps prepare runners for the race the next morning with a pre-race pasta party, held in the late afternoon for all registered entrants at the House of Blues in Atlantic City.
