Event Details

Run to benefit local children’s charities and Global Hepatitis Awareness, the Long Branch Half Marathon coincides with the New Jersey Marathon weekend of events, and also includes a marathon relay for 4- and 3-person teams.

The race features inspirational views of the oceanfront at the start and finish lines at the Long Branch Ocean Promenade on the Jersey shore, and takes runners on a 13.1-mile tour of the neighborhoods and commercial districts of the town and nearby Monmouth Beach.

Known by past runners for its scenic, mostly flat course (no surprise as it’s close to sea level, near the ocean), the race is also known for colorful characters who’ve run in past years such as “Larry the Lighthouse,” who actually runs inside a cardboard lighthouse perched atop his shoulders. The course’s most significant hills take participants over bridges and across water at three points (miles 3, 8 and 11), including Lake Takanassee, and the last three miles offer spectacular views of the waves crashing on the beach.

Race Weather & Climate

The early weeks of spring can be unpredictable in this oceanfront New Jersey town, though race conditions usually fall in the 50s and 60s. Average temperatures for May range between 50°F and 68°F, while precipitation is always a factor – rainfall for the month averages about 4.46 inches.
