New Jersey > OCNJ Half Marathon, 5K & 10-Mile Walk
Ocean City, NJ • Sunday, September 28, 2014 • Course Map
Runners get a chance to enjoy a fast and flat run along southern New Jersey's famed boardwalk at the inaugural running of Ocean City's OCNJ Half Marathon & 5K race, which makes its 4th annual running on this state's race calendar in the early fall of 2014, and whose proceeds will be used to help fund Ocean City Recreation Scholarships and Programs.
The half marathon starts on 9th Street near the Ocean City Music Pier, which is located on the Boardwalk at Moorlyn Terrace and is the home of the city's Ocean City Pops Orchestra, which has been playing music in the city more for more than 80 years. In addition to the 13.1-mile and 5K races, the race will also host a 10-mile non-competitive walk that shares the same starting and finish lines as the other races.
From the starting line, runners head out and enjoy a largely fast and flat course that unfolds along Ocean City's stretches of the Boardwalk as well as along the beach areas, as the waves coming in off the Atlantic Ocean crash along the shoreline. Organizers are planning on a field of up to 1,000 runners and walkers for the event and note that the half marathon is for runners, while the 5K race is open to both runners and walkers.
