Details
Open to runners and walkers and including a full 26.2-mile marathon, a
half-marathon, half relay and a 5K, the New Mexico Marathon &
Half Marathon features a race course that takes runners past the nearby
Sandia Mountains and winds through the streets of Albuquerque along the
Rio Grande. The half maraton starts at about 5,300 feet above sea level
and unfolds mostly downhill, with a few quick uphills and downhills
along the way.
Participants also run past sights such as the Bosque Trail in
Albuquerque's North Valley, where its famed hot air balloons rise and
descend at Balloon Fiesta Park. From there, the fast and flat half
course winds southward,
past Rio Grande Valley State Park for most of the half marathon course,
toward the finish line near the historic Old Town Plaza, at Tiguex Park.
