Details
More than 1,000 runners, walkers and volunteers descend on Syracuse's
Long Branch Park and the surrounding park environs around Onondaga Lake
every year for the Arc of Onondaga Half Marathon, run to raise funds
and awareness about the organization's mission to help those with
developmental disabilities. The race, which also includes a 5K and a
Family Fun Walk, celebrates its 15th annual running in 2009, and treats
participants to a fast and largely flat course through nearby Liverpool
and along the banks of Onondaga Lake Park.
For the first time in its history, the race opened the field in
2007 to participants with wheelchairs and other assistive devices, who
competed for places and prizes along the same USA Track &
Field-certified course as the rest of the field -- a tradition that
continues today.
