Details
The green, pastoral beauty of the prairies and meadows of central New
York State will be on display at the autumn running of the Durkee's
Bread For Schools Run Half Marathon & 5K, which will be run
along a course that starts at the high school in the small town of
Fabius and takes runners along the rolling rural country roads in and
around the town. Organized as a memorial to local residents Albert
Durkee and Michael Antil, the friends and business partners who helped
build the local Durkee's Bakery company together, the race will take
runners through areas that experiencing the brilliant reds, oranges and
yellows of fall as the leaves are turning near the peak of the fall
foliage season.
Organizers say they hope to attract an estimated 5,000 runners for the
fall 2009 running of the race, plus an additional 20,000 "Angel"
volunteers who do not run but who help by volunteering to raise money
for schools in their local areas. There will be a Sunday morning chapel
service near the starting line for all participants who wish to attend
worship services before the race (which starts at 9:00 AM), and there
will be a post-race party for all finishers and their friends, family
and other spectators.
