Details
More than 500 runners crossed the finish line as winter was giving way
to spring at the 2009 running of Rock Hill's Celebrate Life Half
Marathon, a half marathon race event that serves as a fundraiser for
the
locally-based charity organization Citizens Reunited to Overcome
Cancer, which works to help cancer patiens with their financial needs
and challenges.
From the starting line just off Highway 17 near the Holiday Mountain
Ski Area, the race takes runners on an out-and-back course that
features loops around the shorelines of the lakes just south of town,
including Wolf Lake, Treasure Lake and Lake
Louise Marie. Run on paved surfaces throughout its 13.1 miles, the race
route was modified in 2009 to eliminate the hill around the mile 10
point of previous years and to give the race a downhill finish, to the
finish line at The Lodge at Rock Hill.
Open to both runners and walkers, the race starts
promptly at 10:00 AM, with two early starts -- 8:30 AM for the walkers
and 9:30 AM for the slower runners (those who expect to take more than
2 hours, 30 minutes to finish).
