Details
Long Island's annual Marathon & Half Marathon is growing in
both attendance and event choices for participants, shown in the race's
new 10K event added last year as well as a new 5K road race that will
be run
for the first time at the 2008 running of the event. Both the full and
the half-marathon races follow point-to-point courses through the
villages of Uniondale, Westbury and New Cassel, and take runners past
sights such as the Nassau Coliseum (home to the National Hockey
League's New York Islanders) and Museum Row, where visitors can check
out the Cradle of Aviation Museum, Aerospace Museum, Children's Museum
and the Firefighter's Museum.
Runners, walkers and wheelchair participants are all welcome for each
of the races, which begin at 8:00 AM (except the 5K race, which takes
place on Saturday). The half-marathon runners share the same starting
line and time as all other participants, on Charles Lindbergh Avenue
near the Coliseum, and the half finishes inside Eisenhower Park.
