Details
Part of the Madrid Bluegrass River Festival, a weekend-long series of
events highlighted by bluegrass music, a children's fishing derby and
more, the 11th annual Madrid Bluegrass Ramble Half Marathon saw just
over 140 runners
compete in the half, 10K and 5K races in 2007, along a course made up
of
paved country roads through the
countryside of this village in northernmost upstate New York, just 10
miles from the Canadian border.
The rural surroundings and gently rolling hills of the half-marathon
course make this an attractive race for runners of all abilities and
experience levels, taking participants along portions of the nearby
Grasse River and through the farmlands and fields of the local area.
Post-race festivities -- which include plenty of refreshments, door
prizes and awards for race participants -- take place at the festival
grounds on the banks of the river, and runners also receive a discount
admission to the festival.
The half-marathon portion of the event begins at 8:00 AM, and the 5K
and 10K races start at 8:30 AM. Participants may register on the day of
the race at the packet pickup area at the festival, starting at 7:00 AM.
