Details
Run as a benefit for the Arthritis Foundation (which also organizes the
"Joints in Motion" marathon training programs around the country every
year), the Rochester Marathon, Half-Marathon & 4-Person Relay
takes runners on a course that crosses the Genesee River and unfolds
through the downtown areas and intown residential neighborhoods of this
scenic city in western upstate
New York. Largely fast and flat, this point-to-point race offers
runners many of the same sights as the full 26.2-mile marathon,
including the Rochester Science Museum and St. John Fisher College.
From the starting line downtown at the corner of Franklin and Andrews
Streets, the race starts with a long, flat straightaway stretch toward
the southeast of the city, past the green Cobbs Hill Park and into
Brighton Town Park. There, the course turns back toward the west as it
takes participants past the University of Rochester along the Erie
Canal Path, toward the Genesee Valley Park, where three waterways
intersect (Red Creek, the Genesee River and the New York State Barge
Canal).
After the Genesee Valley Park, the course then turns northward along
the river as runners take turns running under a pedestrian bridge as
well as an abandoned railroad bridge, and then run through the quaint
Corn Hill neighborhood, whose 19th-century era homes have been lovingly
restored and helping lead to a revitalization of this intown area. The
race then heads toward the finish at Frontier Field, home of
Rochester's AAA farm team of Major League Baseball's Minnesota Twins.
The Hyatt Regency in Rochester is offering a special $99/night rate to
people participating in this event during marathon weekend. This hotel
is walking distance to the stadium.
