With its starting and finish lines located just off the Ammerman Campus
of
Suffolk County Community College in the southwestern section of this
Long Island town, the Suffolk County Half Marathon & 5K
welcomes nearly 500 runners each year for both race events, which will
celebrate their 12th annual running in 2008. The out-and-back
half-marathon takes a relatively flat route through town along Nicolls
Road, starting near the College Gymnasium and proceeding first south
along Nicolls to Division Street, where runners make the turn back
toward the north.
From there, the race follows Nicolls Road for the remainder of the
race, taking runners northward for the next 6 to 7 miles until reaching
Mark Tree Road, where they turn again and begin heading south toward
the finish line back at the campus.

Weather & Climate
Early spring weather can still be quite cold in the Long Island area,
as temperatures in Selden average between 49°F and 31°F
in the
month of March. Wet weather is also plentiful, as the city sees an
average of 4.46 inches of precipitation during the month.
