Event
Details
The foothills of central New York State are the setting for the
Trompton Run Half Marathon, 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run, which takes place
each August in this village of about 1,400 residents, just five miles
south of the Tioughnioga Reservoir (also known locally as DeRuyter
Lake). Featuring a loop course that takes runners through the hilly
terrain of the surrounding country roads and lake areas, the race is
run in conjunction with the annual Tioughnioga Firemen's Fair and
features an early evening starting time of 6:15 PM.
The course for the half-marathon part of the event is indeed scenic,
beginning near the DeRuyter Central School and taking runners through
the village and northward into the nearby hills, which offer plentiful
tree cover from what race organizers say can be a humid and warm
evening run. Runners follow the course from there northward up and
around the reservoir and along the dam, then turning southward along
East Lake Road and Middle Lake Road toward the finish back at the town
fairgrounds.
