North Carolina > Midtown Race Series - Lookout Capital 5K, 10K, 13.1
Raleigh, NC • Saturday, June 1, 2013 • Course Map

Raleigh's Midtown Race Series made its debut last year as spring was transitioning to summer here in North Carolina's Research Triangle region, and this year makes the second annual running of the series's half marathon, 10K and 5K race, the first of two series races that will be held in 2013, with the second set to take place in September.
Limited to 3,000 runners total -- and 1,500 in the half marathon -- the race will follow an out-and-back course that starts and finishes in the Raleigh neighborhood known as North Hills, at the shopping center at the intersection of Lassiter Mill Road and Currituck Drive. From there, runners in the half marathon set out on a course that takes them first south along Lassiter Mill Road and then east onto the Crabtree Creek Greenway, a nearly 11-mile-long trail that winds along the creek from which it takes its name.
The trail is part of a system of trails known as the Raleigh Greenway System, which is expected to grow to more than 100 miles of trails throughout this part of the state in the next few years. For now, the Crabtree Creek Greenway trail features paved, flat surfaces throughout, stretching mostly within the Raleigh beltline between New Bern Avenue at its southeastern end and Lindsay Drive at its northwestern end, taking runners through a combination of neighborhoods and off-the-beaten-path parks and forests, including a stretch of boardwalk through wetlands.
Runners will make their way northwest along the greenway trail for the next 5 1/2 miles, all the way to the race turnaround point, which lies just before runners reach Milburnie Road and the end of the Crabtree Creek Greenway. From there, the course heads back along the route runners have just run, all the way back along the trail to the race finish line back at the shopping center at Lassiter Mill and Currituck Drive.
The scheduled starting time for the race is 7:00 AM and the half marathon is open to walkers as well as runners, provided they can finish 13.1 miles within the race's 4-hour course time limit.
As an added bonus this year, participants will have the chance to win a Lexus IS C -- learn all about to enter the contest at the Midtown Race Series website.
