Event Details

North Carolina's starkly beautiful Outer Banks are the setting for the OBX Marathon, Half Marathon & Group Fun Run, which takes runners on a scenic point-to-point race along this still largely unspoiled area of the Carolina coastline. The half marathon begins at 7:00 AM in Nags Head, just south of the birthplace of aviation in Kitty Hawk and Kill Devil Hills, taking runners along a course that unfolds entirely at sea level and which is almost all flat, with the exception of a mild rise in elevation around mile 8, when participants cross the Washington-Baum Bridge.

Limited to 3,500 participants (the full marathon is limited to 2,500), the half marathon also features lots of entertainment along the course, including clowns, rock 'n' roll bands, and cheerleading teams, not to mention plenty of spectators especially in the towns of Nags Head and Manteo, which the course takes runners through. The final three miles of the race wind through Manteo, taking runners through its scenic downtown.
