Details
Perhaps best known around the world as one of the sites on the
permanent rotation for the United States Open golf championship,
Pinehurst also plays host each autumn to the pre-Thanksiving running
of the Pinehurst Turkey Trot Half Marathon, which marks its 29th annual
running in the fall of 2009 and also includes a 10K
and a 5K race as well as a one-mile fun run for runners who don't feel
up to running 13.1 miles.
Sponsored and organized by FirstHealth of the Carolinas, which operates
three hospitals in North Carolina including its branch in Pinehurst on
Memorial Drive, where all of the races in the Pinehurst Turkey Trot
begin. From there, the half marathon follows a winding route through
the city streets, over paved roads and a number of rolling hills,
through the Village of Pinehurst. The race finishes back at
FirstHealth's Center for Health and Fitness.

Weather & Climate
Located in the southern central portion of the state, roughly 90 miles
east of Charlotte and just under 70 miles southwest of Raleigh, the
city of Pinehurst typically sees mild to cool and occasionally cold
temperatures in the mid-fall season, and drier weather in November than
in the late summer months. In November, the city's average monthly
temperatures range between 62°F and 42°F, while
rainfall totals average just over 3.3 inches for the month.

$25 for the half marathon, if registered by November 15, 2009
$20 for the 10K and 5K
$28 for the half marathon after Nov. 15
$23 for the 10K and 5K after Nov. 15
