Event
Details
Nearly 1,500 runners crossed the finish line in all races combined at
the inaugural running in the fall of 2009 of Fargo's FM Half Marathon,
10K & 5K,
which saw temperatures in the upper 20s and early-season snow flurries
fall along a course that took the
field on an out-and-back route through two states (North Dakota and
neighoring Minnesota) that traveled back and forth along the Red River
here on the state line for most of the race's 13.1 miles.
From the starting line at the Fargo Civic Center near the city's
downtown, the race takes runners on a north-south route that crosses
the bridge over the river into Minnesota shortly after leaving the
starting line, and features stretches that run past several of
Moorhead, Minnesota's city parks along the course, including runs past
Viking Ship Park, Wood Lawn Park and all the way down to River Oaks
Park, where runners make the turnaround and head back northward along
the route they've just run.
After the race, runners as well as their families and friends were able
to take part in the weekend's festivities known as Oktoberfest Fargo,
which included a pub crawl in Fargo, the "Running of the Weiners" dog
race, and a beer tasting (as well as a root beer event for kids).
