Details
Run along the border between Minnesota and North Dakota on the local
parks and greenspace trail called the Greenway, the YMCA Cats
Incredible Half Marathon & 5K Run/Walk takes runners on a fast
and flat course along the gentle, even terrain of eastern North Dakota,
situated on the banks of the Red River in a region known as the Red
River Valley. This out-and-back race usually draws a smaller field of
participants, as past years have seen between 150 to 250 runners come
out for the race.
Both the 13.1-mile half marathon and the 5K for runners and walkers
begin at 8:00 AM in Grand Forks' Lincoln Park, whose 18-hole golf
course lies along the river on the state line. From there, runners
follow the race route entirely along the Grand Forks Greenway, which
winds along the river in an S-shaped pattern through roughly 2,000
acres of greenspace, parklands and recreation areas in the flood
protection system area along the river.
The race is sponsored by North Dakota's Altru Health System and the
local Grand Forks branch of the YMCA, and all proceeds from the race go
to benefit the YMCA of Grand Forks Partner of Youth programs.
