Details
The deep woods forests, open farmlands and gently rolling hills of
Ohio's Cuyahoga Valley National Park are the setting for the
late-summer-season Buckeye Half Marathon & 5K, which saw 475
runners cross the finish last year for both the half-marathon and the
5K combined. From the starting area at the Howe Meadow Events site
inside the park, between Everett Road and Ira Road, the race follows a
winding out-and-back course through the park, along mostly flat
terrain.
The half-marathon is overwhelmingly the favorite of participants in
this event -- at the 2007 race, the half saw 382 runners cross the
finish line, while the 5K had 93 finishers. Both events, however,
feature equally scenic courses through the park's hiking and horseback
riding trails, past its numerous lakes and ponds and along the winding
Cuyahoga (an old Native American term for "crooked river") that makes
its way through the valley.
Race organizers emphasize that while this is one of Ohio's smaller
running events, there is no race day registration -- you'll need to
make sure to sign up in advance using the registration link either
below or on the website for Summit Athletic Club, which organizes and
sponsors the race. The starting time for the half marathon is 8:00 AM,
followed by the 5K at 8:10 AM.
