Just under 200 runners came out and braved the cold, gray wintry
conditions to
cross the finish line at
this year's Churchill's Half Marathon & 6K road race, run along
a fast and flat course in Monclova Township, which lies just
a few miles south of the Toledo metro area along the shores of Lake
Erie. Long a mainstay of the local running and racing community, the
Churchill's Half Marathon celebrated its 41st annual running this year.
The out-and-back course starts and finishes at the Monclova Community
Center at 8035 Monclova Road, and follows a somewhat circuitous route
along the country roads just south of the community center, as well as
along some creeks and waterways. Past participants describe the course
as "very fast and flat," though the weather can occasionally get windy,
which can slow down your time if you're looking to take advantage of
the level course to achieve a personal record time.
Due in part to the race's often cold conditions, the race has an
afternoon starting time -- 1:00 PM for both the half marathon and the
6K. There is little change at all in elevation through the course of
the race -- there are a few small hills between the start and the mile
2 marker and between miles 5 and 6, which are followed by a long flat
stretch between the 7th and 11th mile markers.

Weather & Climate
Runners are advised to wear appropriate clothing at this race, as the
town of Monclova, which is located about 10 miles southwest of nearby
Toledo, tends to see some pretty cold weather in the waning days of
winter. In March, average temperatures range from 46°F to
28°F, while precipitation amounts -- which can mean snow --
average about 2.62 inches for the month.
