Marathon & 5K
Columbus, OH

Event
Details
Sponsored by the local nonprofit Lifeline of Ohio and designed to raise
awareness of those in need of tissue and organ donation and
transplantation, the Dash For Donation Half Marathon & 5K is a
road race event that actually features five different running and
walking events, including a 1K Fun Walk, a two-person relay, a 5K, the
13.1-mile half marathon, and a children's dash race. From its starting
line next to the Nationwide Arena in downtown Columbus, the race takes
the field on a double-loop course through the city, much of which takes
runners along the bicycle path beside the city's stretch of the
Olentangy River.
After runners cross the starting line just outside the arena, they
follow a route that takes them northward and westward along Neil
Avenue, Vine Street and Michigan Avenue all the way to Harrison West
Park, where they make the turn onto 3rd Avenue and cross the bridge
over the river. Once on the western side of the river, runners then
begin a long, southward trek along the Olentangy Bike Path, a scenic
greenway trail that stretches all the way from Worthington Hills Park
to Confluence Park (where the Olentangy meets the Scioto River) in
downtown Columbus.
The course -- which is mostly flat with very few hills, along paved
surfaces throughout -- takes runners along the river until meeting up
with Rickenbacker Drive, where the course then turns off and takes
runners across the Scioto River over the North Souder Avenue bridge,
along River Street to the turnaround point. There, the field then turns
around and heads back for a brief stretch along the path they've just
run, and turn off at Spring Street to head back over the Olentangy for
the last part of the loop. Once they reach Neil Avenue, runners then
run the loop course a second time and finish back at Nationwide Arena.
To honor those runners and walkers who have a personal connection to
someone who's either undergoing or who has received an organ donation
or tissue transplant (or who is a candidate for either), to take part
in the race's "Sea of Green," by wearing a green shirt during the race
to show the impact that organ donation/transplant has had on their
lives. Race-issued green t-shirts are available as an option when you
register.
