Event Details

One of the oldest and most well-established road races run anywhere in Ohio. the Dayton River Corridor Classic Half Marathon will mark its 33rd annual running in the fall of 2009, as more than 700 runners, walkers and wheelchair competitors are expected to lace up and join in the race that takes its field along the Great Miami River recreational bicycle paths that wind along the banks of the river by the same name that cuts through the city.

From the starting line on Edwin C. Moses Boulevard at Perc Welcome Stadium on the campus of the University of Dayton, the race takes participants along the opening stretch to the Stewart Street Bridge, where the field crosses over the river to Patterson Boulevard. They turn right on Patterson and continue along a path that takes them southward, running along Patterson to the turn onto Carillon Boulevard, where they pass by Dayton's Carillon Historical Park all the way to the turn onto East River Road, which they run for approximately the next two miles.

Runners, walkers and wheelchair entrants follow East River Road until meeting up with the bicycle path, which turns off the road and closely skirts the river for the next couple of miles, all the way to West Carrollton City. When the bike path reaches Marina Drive, the field has almost reached the turnaround point, as they make a loop around Marina, North Alex Road, Bowman Lane and Oman Court, and then turn back onto Marina and head back to the finish line by retracing the route they've just run.

The race, which starts at 9:00 AM, is especially noteworthy for Ohio runners now as it was designated the official Ohio Half Marathon Championship by USA Track & Field in 2007. Nearly 550 runners crossed the finish line in the half-marathon last year, in addition to more than 220 for the 5K and four wheelchair competitors.

Race Weather & Climate

Located in southwestern Ohio, about 60 miles northeast of Cincinnati (and often paired with its neighboring city as part of the 3-million-strong Dayton-Cincinnati metroplex), the city of Dayton tends to see mild to cool and sometimes cold weather in the early fall, with usually drier conditions than most of the rest of the year. In October, average monthly temperatures range from 66°F to 45°F, while rainfall amounts average around 2.69 inches for the month.
